Established by Théodore Van der Veken in 1757, Maison Henri Abelé is the third oldest Champagne house. This prestigious firm has innovated throughout its 250-year history, which is intimately linked with that of the Champagne region.

Maison Henri Abelé was one of the early pioneers in producing and distributing Champagne, the company was one of the most active in marketing its wines in France and around the world, soon becoming official court supplier to royalty in Spain, Germany, and Belgium.

Henri Abelé also made a significant contribution to improving the «Champagne method», by inventing and perfecting the riddling rack. He was also the first to disgorge by freezing the neck of the bottle, a method still in use today.

After the war, many famous monuments were destroyed and it was Maison Abelé contributing funding to restore one of the cathedral’s most beautiful sculptures called «L’Ange au Sourire» (the Smiling Angel) or, alternatively, «le Sourire de Reims» (the Smile of Reims).
Decapitated during a fire in 1914, this beautiful sculpture, typical of the cathedral’s statuary, epitomises «all the grace and tenderness of the French soul» and came to symbolise the city of Reims and its renaissance. This world-famous icon, reconstructed with help from Maison Abelé, became the Champagne firm’s emblem in 1918.

Since then, the smiling angel has been displayed on every bottle, embodying the Henri Abelé spirit: a constant search for perfection and desire to maintain the firm’s traditional expertise.

Color:Attractive deep salmon colour. Fine, persistent bubbles
Aroma:A symphony of fruity aromas, especially strawberry and raspberry.
Taste:The aromas carry over onto the palate, which is smooth with all the fruitiness and finesse one would hope for in rosé Champagne. Roasted notes on the aftertaste, with just the right amount of dosage.
Cellaring Potential:5-7 yrs.
Food Pairing Suggestions:Perfect as an aperitif, with seafood and other light apps.
