Tenuta Monteti, CABURNIO

Tenuta Monteti was founded in 1998 by Paolo Baratta, former Italian minister of parliament and now President of the Venice Film Festival. Tenuta Monteti is located in the most south-west point of Tuscany on the Tyrrhenian sea in Maremma, and the name ‘MONTETI’ comes from the name of the hill where part of the estate lies.

CABURNIO is a name suggested by Pliny the Elder (23 - 79 d.c.) which in his Natural History gives us advice of a vine that in those years was diffused in the Narbonne province, that he defines "tutissima" and that locally "carbunicam vocant".
The style of the two wines are quite modern and are full expression of the Tenuta's terroir: wines of great quality and strong personality.

Tenuta Monteti is planted entirely in French vines: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Alicante Bouschet. The Alicante is a rare, red-fleshed wine grape. It gives unequalled depth of color to any wine. It was popular during Prohibition because it still delivered useful juice at the third pressing.
The wines they make are rich with a fruit marmalade and a light hand with the oak. Full bodied, casual, knowing, and very free. A wine on vacation.

There was a time when the phrase “Super Tuscan” meant that the sommelier was getting ready to deliver a terrible blow to your credit card for a wine of doubtful ancestry. Not so much today. This beautiful, up and coming winery will dazzle you for the quality price ratio.

Vinification:
Temperature-controlled spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The vinification of the grapes from the various land parcels of our vineyards takes place separately in open tapered steel tanks. Maceration: up to 21 days depending on the variety. Long contact with lees to halve the use of sulphites. Filtering: no fining or filtering Maturing: it matures for 12 months, 50% in steel and the remaining 50% in French oak barriques, 70% of which are old wood and 30% are new. This is followed by a further 12 months in the bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Color:Deep garnet red
Aroma:Hints of licorice, crushed flowers, tobacco and new leather add complexity on the striking, nuanced finish.
Taste:Espresso, mocha, sweet grilled herbs and plums wrap around the palate in this deep, inviting wine.
Cellaring Potential:12-17 yrs.
